Orange is a manga series that will definitely pull on your heartstrings. Heck, before even starting the actual story, the first ii art pages at the beginning about broke my centre past themselves. This story starts out with our principal character, Naho, receiving a letter from herself ten years in the future. She and her group of friends are sixteen and in eleventh grade in high school, but what her twenty-vi-yr-old self is trying to warn her of is imperative.

Futurity Naho informs present day Naho that she will lose the boy she likes if she doesn't modify some of the deportment and choices she is about to perform and choose. This obviously makes Naho hyper aware of everything she and her friends are doing, because she is so scared she is going to repeat past mistakes and end up losing this boy anyway.

The all-time role nigh this manga series is the phenomenal friendships. This book has one of the best circle of friends I've read about in years. They constantly are showing their unconditional beloved and support to each other, and are honestly a freakin' treat to read about. Seriously, friendship goals.

Naho Takamiya - Main protagonist, who receives the letter of the alphabet about what her life is going to be like in ten years, unless she changes some things. Very shy, very timid, a very sweet niggling cinnamon roll.

Kakeru Naruse - The boy who will not be in their lives anymore if his friends do non modify the past.

Takako Chino - The more outspoken girl in the grouping. She always sticks up for Naho, since Naho is besides shy for confrontation, and always just generally feels like the protector of the group.

Azusa Murasaka - The happy-go-lucky i of the group, her parents own a bakery, and she'due south always super excited and supportive of Naho.

Saku Hagita - Manga lover in the grouping, who is also totally in beloved with Azu!

Hiroto Suwa - Honestly one of the best characters, and virtually selfless humans, I've read about in years. He's the leader of this group, i of the near popular boys in their school, an amazing soccer player, and proves his unconditional love over and love throughout this volume.

I could probably writes sonnets at this betoken about how much I love Suwa, and how I honestly just desire him, Naho, and Kakeru to have a polya human relationship where they all love each other, but this whole group of friends is astonishing. I dear their group dynamic and how they interact individually, too. They are all selfless, to be honest, and they all truly want what is best for their friends. They are a great support system for one some other, and I love seeing them build and boost each other up.

This manga series is also important, because it never shies away from the topic of suicide. It brings upward bang-up points, especially for high school aged kids, virtually how sometimes when friends joke virtually death, they aren't really joking and to always take them seriously. On the flip side, it is also of import to sympathise that sometimes the saddest people will mask their feelings with smiles and laughter, and so always cheque in on the ones you love and make sure they are feeling okay.

The fine art is beautiful, the story is lovely, and the messages are and then very of import. I loved everything about this, and I cannot await to starting time the anime after I finish Vol. ii.

I thought I would have much more than trouble acclimating to the backwards reading style, but it was surprisingly easy to get accustomed to and I plant it easier to read than some graphic novels that I've read. That existence said, I call up this manga is a dandy entry betoken to the genre for anyone because it's modern, the art is actually really beautiful, and the storyline is easy to follow yet still interesting and fun!

I loved the characters in this. Although I got their names confused for most the first half, they each had such dynamic personalities and I grew to beloved everyone individually. The story is so absurd because information technology toys with the idea of time travel and if people tin prevent tragedy from hitting, and I think information technology's such a fantastic story of friendship. I tin can't wait to pick upwards the second volume.

The reason I marked off a star is because I thought several places were a little bit too in-your-face up. Specially, Naho'southward inner monologue was often cheesy with super hyperbolic rhetorical questions that were almost silly in their cheesiness? Like someone would exist nice to her and she would then be like "I wonder why they're being nice to me?!" and you just desire to shake her and be like THEY !! LIKE !! YOU !!

But that beingness said, I would dear to encounter her abound into her skin in futurity volumes. I recall her relationship with Kakeru is sweet and charming.

It turns on a sort of familiar scifi trope/and social media theme: What if you could change your past? Or, what would your 25 year old self say to your 15 twelvemonth old cocky? Naho gets messages from her 25 twelvemonth former self urging her to change the future that would lead to Kakeru's suicide. There'south romance in here, simply the book chiefly deals with this endeavour to alter the futurity by interim on behalf of someone in demand, Kakeru, whose mother also has committed suicide, and who also suffered from clinical low.

All the characters would seem to exist gorgeous and adorable, and the action is actually surprisngly engaging much of the time. Naho also finds an old journal where she has written to her 25 year old cocky, so that's an interesting angle, too. This is a large multi-volume collection which is layered, thoughtful and insightful about silence amid friends virtually a particular friend who needs support. Nosotros all accept them from fourth dimension to time. What can we do for others? How tin we say the things we demand to say and practise the things nosotros need to do? This is a bittersweet series much deserving the accolades it has received. I'd say 4.5 at this bespeak, but it just might get better.

Orange is a wonderfully-written and beautifully-illustrated manga focusing on the romantic feelings between Naho and Kakeru, 2 high-school students. Naruse Kakeru is a new transfer from Tokyo and immediately catches Naho's attending. She is really quite smitten with him but she is also shy to tell him how she feels.

Naho receives a alphabetic character from her future self (10 years in the hereafter) which outlines a tragedy that occurs. These letters (which are in diary entry form) instruct Naho what to exercise in order to forbid the tragedy.

I don't desire to reveal too much about this story equally information technology'due south a really lovely tale which honestly makes my heart cook. I see a lot of myself in Naho, and Kakeru is beautiful. Really, I quite like Suwa too, and the girls (Azusa and Taka Chan) are hilarious!

Honestly, you volition be hard-pushed to find anything more adorable and the artwork is STUNNING!!! Like, achingly so!

Orange deals with a topic that I am usually not comfortable reading near. Mostly considering it's almost never handled well in books (at least the ones I read). Just this, this is Cute. I am notwithstanding at a loss for words. Which is curious, because this being manga, it also didn't accept that many words in it (relative to its 500+ page count), but it relayed emotions and feelings in the strongest, nigh eye wrenching and best possible way.

Information technology is true what they say - a moving picture is worth a m words.

The cast of characters is astonishing. They all have very unique personalities, and the manner they come together is absolutely beautiful. Hands downwardly the best portrayal of a big group friendship in a book.

And while at times the main character Naho, was a fleck hard to read because of her extreme timidness and indecisiveness - in the terminate I realized that she couldn't take been whatever other way. She was shy to beginning with, merely the brunt which was put on her, made all of her decisions that much harder for her.

There were many small details in the volume which would resurface subsequently and hit you right in the feels.

Orange is a masterpiece, and I am praying in my heart that volume 2 is just as skillful.

What I Liked

The heavy topics mixed with lighthearted scenarios. I honestly had no idea how night and sad that this manga would become at times. I idea it was going to be a lighthearted and fun story, merely it gets actually deep and intense. Still, the juxtaposition of the darker moments mixed with the lighthearted ones worked really well together. I think this worked well because it highlighted the fact that no matter how happy and okay someone seems on the outside, you never actually know what's going on in their heads.

The characters. The characters are all so nifty and so unlike from one another. They all have their own unique personalities which is bully, specially because in that location are 6 of them. I thought it may be hard to keep track of who was who, but information technology was the complete contrary. I love that they each have their ain flaws and problems that they take to bargain with on a daily basis. Orangish is a very grapheme driven story so I'1000 really glad that the characters were paid attention to and given their own singled-out personalities.

The sci-fi twist. Not only is Orange a story that deals with some pretty serious social issues, it besides manages to sneak in a trivial bit of a science fiction twist. Our main grapheme, Naho, receives a letter of the alphabet from her future self that warns her about the different choices that she and her friends make and how it effects their lives. Information technology touches a fleck on time travel and the effect that time travel can have if you lot change the futurity. It also touches on the idea of parallel universes which I thought was pretty cool. Fourth dimension travel and alternate timelines are two concepts that completely baffle my mind. It was pretty cool to come across these ideas being mentioned in a contemporary setting.

The manner it hits you in the feels. This book made me feel some type of style. It was heartbreaking, however beautiful and I don't fifty-fifty know how to cover these conflicting emotions! I definitely got teary eyed reading a few item scenes while other moments had me smiling and feeling happy. Just know that this story completely plays with your emotions.

--

What I Didn't Like

I loved everything. Clearly, there really wasn't anything to dislike about this story. I absolutely loved everything about it!

--

Overall, this was such an amazing volume and my 2nd ever venture into the world of manga! I can't wait to read the second volume and see how this story concludes! I'm sure it will be an emotional rollercoaster.

Existent quick: I'g non a manga reader. In fact, manga is probably toward the lesser of my reading preferences, along with wartime-era historical fiction and self-help books. I love the art styles and the concepts, but there's e'er something almost their stories that I notice hard to go along my attention.

I'm non sure why, it's definitely downwardly to my reading tastes and non the genre equally whole. That said, I surprisingly enjoyed Orange.

Orange follows the high school escapades of Naho, a girl who finds herself mysteriously finding a letter of the alphabet written by her future self to her past self in the 11th form. The letter has all sorts of daily predictions and wishes for the "past" Naho to fulfill in guild to forbid something terrible from happening. As Naho begins to discover that this letter is in fact telling the truth, she tries to follow its instructions and forestall the outcome from happening.

Similar most manga that I've skimmed, heard about, or picked up, Orange revolves around a dreamy male love interest whom Naho'south story is fixated on. I was a chip irritated to observe out that Naho'southward story was substantially eclipsed in favor of her fixation on securing the happiness of the love involvement—every bit important and well done as this arc proved to be—simply again, I realize that is my reading preferences enforcing expectations on a genre that I don't unremarkably read.

I recollect Orange is a manga that anyone—regardless of experience in the format—tin enjoy. Only don't await it to be too deep, or too involved with female person individualism. Looking forward to reading the determination in volume two.
